St. Louis Committee May Take Up Gun Ban Tomorrow!

As we’re been warning you for some time, St. Louis Alderwoman Lyda Krewson is working to pass legislation to ban virtually all semi-automatic firearms in St. Louis!

What’s more, the bill, BB195, has been placed into the Public Safety Committee for further consideration — and that committee meets tomorrow morning at 10:00 am!

That’s why I need you to contact the members of the Public Safety Committee right way, letting them know that you want them to take no action on this bill tomorrow, or ever! More on that in a moment.

In case you missed our earlier alerts on this, Alderwoman Krewson’s legislation represents perhaps the most aggressive attack on our gun rights ever proposed here in Missouri.

If passed into law in St. Louis, it would make you a criminal for owning ANY semi-automatic firearm that has a detachable magazine and holds more than 5 rounds of ammunition!

The Glock 19 you carry for self-defense — you’d have to get rid of that or face incarceration.

The Ruger 10/22 that you use for plinking and for teaching your children or grandchildren how to shoot — yep, you’d be a criminal for owning such a dangerous ‘assault weapon.’

The AR-15 you have for home defense and just because it’s your right to own one — you guessed it, you’d be forced to give that up or pay fees and spend time in jail for the ‘crime’ of owning that firearm if Krewson’s bill passes!

The idea that this Alderwoman would seek to put gun owners like you and me in jail for exercising a constitutional right just about makes my blood boil.

Not only is her proposal unconstitutional and not likely to do anything about the wave of violent crime sweeping St. Louis, it’s also blatantly illegal!

That’s right, Krewson’s proposals would violate Missouri code section 21.750 which clearly states that:

(1.) The general assembly hereby occupies and preempts the entire field of legislation touching in any way firearms, components, ammunition and supplies to the complete exclusion of any order, ordinance or regulation by any political subdivision of this state. Any existing or future orders, ordinances or regulations in this field are hereby and shall be null and void except as provided in subsection 3 of this section.

(2.) No county, city, town, village, municipality, or other political subdivision of this state shall adopt any order, ordinance or regulation concerning in any way the sale, purchase, purchase delay, transfer, ownership, use, keeping, possession, bearing, transportation, licensing, permit, registration, taxation other than sales and compensating use taxes or other controls on firearms, components, ammunition, and supplies except as provided in subsection 3 of this section.

But it would be a mistake for you and I to just sit back and not oppose this as aggressively as we can!

Just because it’s illegal doesn’t mean Krewson won’t try her hardest and, if it passed, that it won’t ensnare gun owners while the courts decide what to do with the conflict between city and state code.

With the results of the Nov. 8 election giving gun owners a badly needed dose of momentum around the nation, we can’t let off the gas here in Missouri for a moment.

The battle for the Second Amendment runs on this momentum.

If Krewson and her ilk can savage the Second Amendment like this and receive no push-back, it’ll only embolden other anti-gunners — in city councils as well as in Jeff City — to think that gun owners are not going to hold them accountable!

Your fellow gun owners in St. Louis are asking for your help, please don’t turn a deaf ear just because you don’t live there.

I don’t either, but I know that if we don’t stand together and fight this, that we will eventually lose.

That’s why I hope you’ll take a moment to contact the Public Safety Committee before they meet tomorrow morning!

Like I said, this bill may not be voted on at this meeting, but make sure they hear from you!

Suggested Email to the St. Louis Board of Alderman

Dear_________________,

The legislation in your committee, BB195, that was proposed by Alderwoman Krewson, represents an outright slap in the face to gun owners by proposing to put us in jail for possessing firearms that are legal according to state code and constitutionally guaranteed!

Moreover, state code section 21.750 clearly states that no city can enact gun control of this nature!

Finally, study after study shows that clamping down on law abiding gun owners does nothing to reduce the rate of violent crime.

In fact, it has the opposite effect, as murderous criminals don’t obey the law in the first place.

That’s why I hope you’ll oppose BB195 whether it’s brought up in your committee on Tuesday morning, or any other time.

Sincerely,
