The McCloskey Case: A warning for every gun owner in Missouri

Wed, Aug 6, 2025

After five years of hell on earth, my personal friends — Mark and Patricia McCloskey — finally got their AR-15 rifle back.

You may remember the headlines from 2020.

In June of that year, a violent BLM mob smashed through the gate of their private neighborhood in St. Louis. They poured onto the McCloskeys’ property, screaming threats, waving weapons, and promising to burn their home down with them inside.

But that’s just the public story, the details are far worse than what many people know.

Mark and Patricia did exactly what any sane, law-abiding citizen would do when the police refused to help: they armed themselves and stood their ground.

They didn’t fire a shot. They didn’t go looking for trouble. But they protected their home, their lives, and their property.

But the radical Left — with the help of a corrupt Soros-funded prosecutor — went after them with everything they had:

👉 They seized their firearms.
👉 They charged them with crimes.
👉 They tried to bankrupt them in court.
👉 They made them into national villains for daring to defend themselves.

And it worked.

Even after being pardoned in 2021the government refused to give them their rifle back. For 1,847 daysthey fought back through three lawsuits and two appeals — and only now, five years later, did they win.

This should never have happened in Missouri.

But it did.

Because Missouri’s self-defense laws are broken.

That may surprise you. Missouri is a pro-gun state, right? In many ways, yes. But not when it comes to our Stand-Your-Ground laws.

In Missouri, if you use a firearm to defend yourself, you are presumed guiltyThe burden of proof doesn’t fall on the government — it falls on YOU.

That’s why the McCloskeys were targeted.

And that’s why you or I could be targeted next.

The only reason they survived this five-year ordeal was because they had the resources to fight back in court — and because President Trump and then-Governor Mike Parson stepped in to protect them.

But most people don’t get that kind of help.

That’s why Missouri Firearms Coalition is fighting to fix this.

This year, MOFC filed legislation to fix Missouri’s self-defense laws. We got it passed through a Senate committee — but Republican leadership refused to bring it to the floor for a vote.

In the House, they wouldn’t even give it a hearing.

That’s unacceptable.

We’re not going to let what happened to the McCloskeys happen to another Missouri gun owner. But we need your help.

Gun owners in Missouri deserve better.

You shouldn’t have to pray for a pardon, or beg for your rifle back, just because you defended your home.

But that’s the reality in our state — and it won’t change until gun owners like you stand up and demand it.
