I just got back from the Capitol with an urgent Friday morning update on the Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA).
On Tuesday afternoon, SAPA hit the Senate floor for debate. But barely an hour in, Senate Democrats launched their attack.
➔ Democrat Senator Steve Roberts filed an amendment making it a crime for anyone under 18 to possess a handgun — with only narrow exceptions.
➔ Democrat Senator Tracy McCreery filed an amendment that would turn gun owners into prohibited persons over a range of misdemeanor offenses.
In the Missouri Senate, any Senator can filibuster — meaning they can stand and talk for hours, grinding debate to a halt, while negotiations happen behind closed doors.
I was in these negotiations.
Democrats wanted the Missouri Firearms Coalition to accept the under-18 handgun ban in exchange for ending the filibuster.
I told them: NO WAY.
Not only does it violate the Second Amendment, but once you start making deals like that, they just come back demanding more. It’s a guarantee.
There are some national groups that cut deals like this — but not us. Not in Missouri.
After multiple filibusters, the Senate laid SAPA aside just before midnight. Negotiations are still happening right now, and SAPA is definitely in danger.
The GOP has the votes to get this done.
The only question is — will they?
That’s why I need you to email your Senator right away and demand they pass SAPA with no weakening amendments!
Missouri’s gun rights are on the line — GET LOUD!
For Missouri,
