Last December, the Jackson County Legislature declared war on gun owners between the ages of 18 and 20 — and they violated the Missouri Constitution to do it.
Ordinance No. 5865 made it a crime for law-abiding 18-, 19-, and 20-year-olds to possess a handgun or an AR-15 outside of their own home.
This ordinance is a blatant violation of Missouri’s preemption law and the Second Amendment. Local governments have no authority to enact their own gun control laws in Missouri. NONE.
Even Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr., a radical Democrat, vetoed this trash!
He warned that the ordinance violated state law, would cost taxpayers millions in court, and would never hold up under legal scrutiny.
But the left-wing zealots on the Legislature overrode his veto anyway — and shoved this unconstitutional garbage into law.
We could’ve crushed this bill in the legislature.
We had HB-726 in the House and SB-74 in the Senate, both of which would have blocked local governments from enforcing their own gun control ordinances. We passed both out of committee.
But then House and Senate leadership REFUSED to bring them to the floor for a vote.
Thank God that Attorney General Andrew Bailey isn’t waiting around. He just filed a massive lawsuit to strike this ordinance down and defend our gun rights in court!

But let’s be very clear: Jackson County is just the beginning. The gun control crowd is already watching this case closely.
If they get away with this in Jackson County, they’ll try it in St. Louis County, Boone County, Springfield, Columbia, and beyond.
